Reason of death: He was hiking with his family up a mountain, and it was a sunny day. There wasn't much to worry about. He would soon get to see the tree that he loved to see, and he'd seen since his childhood. His parents had taken him there, and he'd sometimes go the long way up the mountain just to read under the shade of the Chinese Parasol Tree.After a few hours, it started to rain a bit. No big deal, they would get to the cottage soon, anyways.

As the rain grew heavier, the ground started getting slippery, and then his mom slipped and fell down the mountain. Then, his dad tried to go down to get her, telling Yan that he'd be there soon, just go and wait. It started to rain hard, and walking up the mountain was hard. Yan was getting tired and cold. Then, when he wasn't paying attention, he made a big mistake. He tripped over the tree root of his precious tree and fell down the mountain, which caused is skull to get crushed; however he bled to death at the bottom of the mountain in a heavily forested area.

As he bled to death, he thought, "...Man, I just lost everything I had in one blow. I wonder what happened to mom and dad. It's too late for me now, though. I wish I at least died under the parasol tree."
